BVSc MANZCVS (Equine Medicine)
Equine Sports Med. is owned and managed by Kelley Barrington BVSc MANZCVS (Equine Medicine). Graduating with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University in 1996, Kelley has extensive experience and knowledge in all aspects of equine veterinary care.
Kelley is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) in Equine Medicine.
Throughout her 20 plus years working as an equine vet, Kelley has developed a passion for sports medicine. Kelley loves the challenge of working with a poor performing or lame sport horse to uncover the real cause of the problem and help them return to their best.
Kelley takes a holistic approach when assessing each horse, often working with a range of equine professionals, from farriers to nutritionists, to examine all factors affecting the horse’s performance. Kelley uses her knowledge and expertise to set each horse a treatment and management plan, aimed at enabling them to return to peak performance. She follows her clients with a keen interest and having competed in eventing, dressage and show jumping herself from a young age, Kelley knows first-hand the demands on a performance horse.
While Kelley travels to her client’s properties across the upper North Island, she has set up a boutique equine vet clinic at her home on a peaceful and quiet 600-acre property in Clevedon, South Auckland. High quality diagnostics form the base of any poor performance evaluation, and Kelley has digital xray, ultrasound, and endoscopy at the clinic. These modalities used alongside lameness or soreness evaluation with nerve blocks as appropriate allow a full investigation. Referral for scinitigraphy or CT is also offered when appropriate.
